If you have been following us for a while, you probably know that we strongly believe in the power of social media. We are convinced that social media is one of the most important fields a business should focus on reach potential customers and build a community online.

But have we ever told you why we are so passionate about social media? We probably gave you a few statistics here and there, but never gave you real explanations and examples. And that is exactly what we are going to do in this blog.

If you are interested in learning about the real power of social media, keep reading for four examples of great social media success.

1. The #ShareACoke campaign

Let's start with an older campaign, but definitely, one we can't ignore. Between 2011 and 2015, Coca-Cola gained more than 25 million followers on Facebook. How? By printing names on their bottles.

The campaign started in 2011 with 150 names in only Australia but soon expanded to reach many more countries and - in the end - 1000 names.

How did it work? The brand encouraged followers and fans to take pictures of them with their loved ones, and of course a Coca-Cola bottle with their (or one of their) names on it. With the hashtag #ShareACoke, or course.

People absolutely loved the campaign and were more than happy to show the world their name on a bottle. Within a year, more than 500,000 photos were posted online, which got shared 120,000 times. Can you imagine the incredible numbers of people that must have seen the Facebook name appear on their Facebook feed?

2. Instagrammable products by Starbucks

A more recent success story is the one by Starbucks. The well-known coffee business used Instagram and the trend of photographing 'pretty looking food,' and created the ultimate 'Instagrammable' drink: The Unicorn Frappuccino.

All Starbucks actually did, being very sharp on the trends. And what were the trends in 2017, when the Unicorn Frappuccino was born? Unicorns, color, and Instagram.

The colorful drink and hashtag #unicornfrappuccino were shared in almost 155,000 posts and the same global same-store sales and same-store sales in the Americas increased by 3% for the second quarter.

3. Influencer marketing: Videos for Society6

An example of success with the help of influencers can't be missed in our list of success stories. Influencers have become a huge part of social media marketing about the past years, and many brands have booked amazing results with the help of those who have an 'influential position' among their target audience.

Society6 is one of the brands that ran a successful social media influencer campaign a few years ago. The e-commerce platform that allows artists to sell their art online decided to work with 21 influencers to promote their business.

The campaign focused on young students specifically, to promote decorating dorm rooms with Society6 art.

The 21 influencers created videos showing their stylish dorm rooms, and the results were amazing. The videos were viewed over 1 million times, with an engagement rate of 5.68%.

4. Success by Social Media Gids: Cheap views for the yachting group

To finish off, we just have to share one of Social Media Gids' success stories too. Although we have a few of them, let's take a closer look at our superyacht story.

A few years ago, we were approached by one of the world's leading companies in the superyacht industry. The company aimed to promote export for its members.

To do better in reaching their target market, our client asked us to set up targeted Facebook and Instagram campaigns to promote the yachting group worldwide to the right target audience.

Of course, this is what we love doing, so we started immediately. We ran their social media channels for a while and used different ad campaigns to reach who the company needed to reach: Superyacht owners (or their representatives), captains and crew members, brokers, and naval architects. To be sure we focused on the right group, we used an advertising funnel. We first made sure to reach as many (relevant) people as possible through Instagram stories, and later re-targeted those people with follow-up campaigns. This way, we led people through our funnel to slowly make them more attached to the company.

Our strategy was relatively simple but incredibly effective. We reached huge amounts of people with a limited budget and increased the company's number of Instagram followers significantly. To give you an idea: The costs per 1,000 people reached was only €0,23. That's not much for being seen by 1000 relevant people, right?
